IPL (INTENSE PULSED LIGHT) or LIMELIGHT
What is IPL?
Intense Pulsed Light is a non-invasive treatment that can treat skin without disruption of the skin surface. It has a low risk of complications and very little recovery time. IPL can treat numerous skin conditions at once. It is effective on red blemishes that originate from blood
vessels, as well as brown pigmented blemishes in the form of freckles, age spots and other sun damage. IPL also treats the neck, chest and hands where sun damage is most visible. It is exceptionally effective at treating pigmented lesions and diffuse redness. The visible light delivered by the IPL is selectively absorbed by the pigmented spots or redness in your skin. This treatment is sometimes referred to as photo-rejuvenation.
What areas can be treated?
We can treat any part of your body with sunspots, freckles and/or redness. The most popular areas for treatment are the face, chest, shoulders, arms and hands because they have suffered from the most sun exposure.
What does it feel like?
When the handpiece is placed on your skin, it will feel cool and comfortable. When the pulse of light is delivered, you may feel a mild, brief stinging sensation. Immediately following the treatment, the spots may start to darken. You may notice a slight reddening of the surrounding skin. This typically subsides within a couple of hours. Over the course of the next one to three weeks, darkened spots will fade and flake off.
How many treatments will I need?
Typically, three or five treatments are sufficient to see dramatic results. Additional treatments may be required for very large or dark spots or for densely covered areas.
When will I see results?
Most patients find that the majority of their treated spots have shown significant improvement within two to three weeks of treatment. However, your final result may not be apparent for a several months.
